Videos claiming that 5G technology helped the spread of the Covid-19 virus have emerged on the YouTube platform. Let's learn the reality of this event together.
In December 2019, the Covid-19 virus emerged, causing a profound shock to the entire world. Initially appearing in the People's Republic of China, this virus spread to countries around the globe in March 2020. The world’s governments were unprepared for such a situation. Most states declared curfews, which had very negative effects on the world economy. The public staying at home and the continuously increasing death toll led to a psychologically distressing period. During this time, videos claiming that 5G technology helped spread the Covid-19 virus emerged on the YouTube platform. Let’s learn about the reality of this event together.
What is 5G Technology and How Does It Work?

5G service is a new generation wireless communication technology. It can also be described as the restructuring of the technological infrastructure found in cellular networks used by mobile phones with new rules. Additionally, it provides approximately 10 times the data transmission speed of fourth-generation technology. In this context, changes in the way radio frequencies, processors, and antennas are used, as well as new enhancements to increase capacity, can also be mentioned.
Data transfer in mobile communication systems is achieved through electromagnetic waves at radio wavelengths. Until now, the wavelengths of signals used in mobile communication systems were in the centimeter range. In 5G technology, signals with wavelengths in the millimeter range (in the frequency range of 6-100 gigahertz) are used. Despite the increasing number of mobile devices every day, the same frequency ranges being used can cause issues such as slowdowns and disconnections. The fact that signals in 5G technology operate in a frequency range that has not been previously used in mobile communication systems may be a solution to these problems.
Another issue that needs to be overcome in mobile communication systems is reducing latency. Latency can be defined as the time taken for data to be transmitted from one point to another. Areas such as driverless vehicle technologies, autonomous, and remote control systems require low latency.Reducing latency is quite important. In 4G, the latency ranged from 30 milliseconds to 50 milliseconds. In 5G technology, however, latency can be reduced to 1 millisecond.
Is 5G Technology Harmful?

Particularly European countries opposed 5G technology on the grounds that it emits radiation. Some companies and scientists who are experts in the field stated that the amount of radiation emitted by 5G technology could be dangerous for human health. The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), which prepared a report on the harm of the frequencies emitted by the 5G network, argued that exposure to high frequencies would have serious effects on human health. More than 240 researchers from the International EMF (Electromagnetic Field) Scientists Coalition, which published a joint statement on the examination of the amount of radiation emitted by 5G, claimed that human and animal health would be endangered with 5G.Despite all this, the World Health Organization (WHO), which investigates the health effects of electromagnetic fields on humans, stated that no significant public health risk has emerged from electromagnetic fields.Dr. Simon Clarke, a Cellular Microbiology lecturer at Reading University, expressed in his statement that these claims are "complete nonsense." He stated, "The immune system can weaken due to anything like fatigue or not following a good nutrition regimen. While these fluctuations may not be very large, they can make you susceptible to infections. Essentially, radio waves can disrupt your physiology and negatively affect your immune system. However, the energy levels of 5G radio waves are very low and are not powerful enough to affect the immune system. There is a lot of research on this."
Is 5G the Cause of the Covid-19 Pandemic?

On the other hand, the claims that 5G causes Covid-19 disease should be classified as conspiracy theories. Because there is no evidence that 5G causes Covid-19.There is currently no scientific study available. There are findings suggesting that the virus has transmitted from a yet unidentified living organism to humans. According to information on the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), coronaviruses found in animals such as camels, bats, cattle, and cats can occasionally transmit to humans. Coronaviruses that led to SARS and MERS diseases have also passed from animals to humans.Evidence that the Covid-19 virus is not man-made comes from an article published in Nature Medicine. The research team, consisting of Kristian G. Andersen from the Scripps Research Institute, Andrew Rambaut from the University of Edinburgh, W. Ian Lipkin from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, Edward C. Holmes from the University of Sydney, and Robert F. Garry from Tulane University, stated that they analyzed the genetic sequences coding for the spike proteins on the virus's surface.Accordingly, these spike proteins, which the virus uses to attach to receptors, are so effective at targeting specific receptors in human cells that it is impossible for current technology to create such a structure.According to Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ceyhan, an Infectious Diseases Specialist from Hacettepe University, there is no possibility that 5G or any other technology has caused this virus to emerge. "It is not possible for radiation to cause such a mutation. Because this is not a virus that emerged from a change in a gene segment due to an agent like radiation," he said. He also added, "This coronavirus has a genetic structure that is 81% from bat coronaviruses, meaning SARS virus, and 19% completely from pangolin coronaviruses. So if it were created in a laboratory environment or with such technological means, there would be genes other than these as well."In addition, the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) reported that mobile phone usage increased by 500% from the 1990s to 2016, and as a result, the incidence of brain tumors has increased compared to the past.It stated that there was a 34% increase. The International Agency for Research on Cancer defined mobile phones as a "potential carcinogenic factor" in 2011.As a result, it has been tested and approved by the necessary institutions that 5G technology does not have harmful effects on humans, animals, and plants. However, it has been proven that high levels of mobile phone usage have increased the incidence of brain tumors in humans by 34% over the last 5 years. We must use technology as much as we need for our health and make society aware. We should not forget that nature is the foundation of our daily lives, and we can make our lives healthier and more efficient with sustainable technologies in harmony with nature."To completely condemn technology, to ignore gardens flourishing with salt-free seawater, and to blindly praise it means to forget Hiroshima."Stuart ChaseSourceshttps://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/5G
